Rangers re-assign Tim Kennedy

                    It appears that the Rangers have no space for a youngster they signed for $550,000.

                   Tim Kennedy, 24, who scored 10 goals and 26 points for the Sabres last season, was shipped to Hartford to create room for the returning Chris Drury. Kennedy is small (5-9, 175) but quick, and likely will be claimed on re-entry if the Rangers ever recall him. The claiming team would only be responsible for $225,000 of his salary.

                  Kennedy, a Buffalo native, was a healthy scratch in the first two games. Tough break for him, but Brian Boyle, who has size, won the battle for fourth-line center in camp.

                 For the moment, the Rangers retained C/LW Todd White, 35, as a spare. Vinny Prospal remains on IR with an inflamed knee. It appears White will sub for Prospal if it's determined that the Czech veterans will need surgery.  Both White and Kennedy cleared waivers before rosters were submitted Oct. 6.
