In better times, with a 2-1 lead in the third period, Henrik Lundqvist was a rock, the defenseman and forwards got all of the blocked shots and you could chalk up the two points.

Not recently.

Eight goals against in the last three third periods.

Ryan Callahan: "We had the lead with a little over eight minutes left, we’ve got to find a way to keep it, the way it’s going right now, earlier in the year we’ve been able to close those out. They’re getting the bounces right now... It’s getting away from us. Especially in the playoffs, you get a lead in third period, you’ve got to hold onto it."

Where exactly the Rangers will finish before the post-season begins in now in question. The Rangers open a critical seven game homestand, startign with the Islanders on Sunday and the Pens, just four points behind, visit Thursday.

Plenty more on all this tomorrow....
