Rangers cap 14-game
unbeaten streak
The Rangers capped a 14-game unbeaten streak (12-0-2) with a 7-1 victory over the host Ottawa Senators as seven different players scored goals. The Rangers outshot the Senators, 37-15, as goalie Glenn Healy allowed just a first-period power-play goal to Alexei Yashin that tied the score at 1. Steve Larmer put the Rangers ahead with a shorthanded goal later in the first period. The Rangers scored three times on the power play in seven chances, with Sergei Zubov, Adam Graves and Mark Messier converting. They also scored three at even strength as Kevin Lowe, Tony Amonte and Mike Gartner each beat Senators goalie Craig Billington. Gartner added two assists, as did Brian Leetch. The Rangers went on to win the Stanley Cup in coach Mike Keenan's only season in New York.
