9) PATRICK ROY, AVALANCHE
The Hall of Famer was always willing to fight, even if he usually got his behind kicked in the process. During the great Avalanche-Wings rivalry of the 1990s, Roy (262 career PIMs) fought Wings goaltenders Chris Osgood and Mike Vernon; he didn't really win either, but high marks for getting involved.

Wednesday night's rare goalie scrap between Rick DiPietro and Brent Johnson got Arthur Staple thinking about the best goalie fighters in recent memory. Some highlights include:

- A former Ranger who earned a reputation as a wild man by beating on an Islander

- A current NHL front office member who is well-known to local fans

- A four-time Stanley Cup winner who battled pucks and opposing players for the Islanders

- An all-time great who was never late to a dance

- A pair Philadelphia Flyers netminding nasty boys
