UPDATE: Ray Emery signs with Ducks; Isles not interested
According to TSN, Emery, who hasn't played in the NHL since starting last season with the Flyers, signed a two-way contract with the Ducks. The Islanders will not put in a claim, according to a source.
Emery goes on waivers today at noon. Emery needs waivers because he signed a two-way contract; the Ducks want to send him to Syracuse of the AHL for conditioning, since Emery hasn't played anywhere this season.
The Islanders did claim Evgeni Nabokov last month from the Wings, and Nabokov refused to report. Garth Snow is not going down the same road with Emery, who hasn't played since he needed hip surgery over a year ago.
So the Isles will wait for Nathan Lawson to get well and muddle through with two of their top goaltending prospects, Kevin Poulin and Mikko Koskinen, manning the nets for the big club.
