Steve Matthews' Aqueduct selections for Saturday, March 7
Best bet: EARLY ON (7)
Best value: POROSITY (9)
FIRST: Fever Night makes quick return after 12-length score on Feb.26; more to come. Golden Plate, an uncoupled barn mate of top selection, logs fast figures on best efforts. Airborne Elite could impact if pace meltdown ensues.
SECOND: Bellamy logged four tight works since second in last start; confident price boost seals the deal. Tiger Rocket, another that's training strongly, gets Lasix, blinkers and drops; dangerous. Two Ducks owns speed and must be factored into the mix.
THIRD: Sturdy was freshened after winning last at Parx; 1 1/4-mile trip could be right in his wheelhouse. Neon Bordeaux has the benefit of the rail and logs fast figures on best efforts; worth long look. Waitlist should move forward in second start since two-month layoff; don't ignore.
FOURTH: Sculcos Folly, a much-the-best, front-end winner in last, projects as the main speed once again. The Obliterator, an uncoupled barn mate of top pick, could be in the garden spot if that rival hits the wall. Wamo is another that would be aided by pace meltdown.
FIFTH: Gypsy Dreaming is riding a two-race winning streak and looms the dominant speed with Kendrick Carmouche aboard. Farm Team runs late and could be ideally placed if top selection wilts in the lane. Morlock owns seven seconds from 12 starts; another minor award?
SIXTH: La Gran Artesana tallied seven-length score last out; pairs up. Next On Stage, a clear-cut second in last, owns faster back figures; very interesting. Goodnightndgodbless was an improved third in last; price will be tempting.
SEVENTH: Early On should pack amplified wallop with cutback to mile. Grace Reformed, idle since July, owns speed and fast figures on best efforts; dangerous. Full Pour regressed in last after breaking maiden in prior; rebound potential.
EIGHTH: Galinda visually and numerically impressed when winning second in a row; keeps on giving. Purple Divine was done in by hot pace in last; don't ignore. Blue Note made sustained rally to win debut on Jan. 16; must be factored into the mix.
NINTH: Porosity tallied fast late-pace figure when winning last; pairs up. Incentive Pay fits Chad Brown's signature pattern; obvious threat. Sea Vista exits rapid-numbered maiden score on Feb. 12; dangerous. Derbyness, 1-for-1 on Big A loam, is training sharply for first start since May; right in the thick of this.
