Horse show group HITS moves its offices to Kingston
Jan. 5—KINGSTON, N.Y. — The horse show organization HITS has relocated its offices from Saugerties to Uptown Kingston, a move Kingston Mayor Steve Noble sees as positive for future development in the city.
Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the occasion Thursday afternoon at HITS' new offices at 151 Stockade Drive, opposite Kingston Plaza, Noble said he was elated by the move.
"I think people will see that we have 17 new employees that are coming to work in Kingston in the heart of our Uptown business district," Noble said. "I think it shows that people want to live and work here. We are a business-friendly city and we have spaces just like this beautiful building for businesses to be able to come into."
Noble said it was a feather in Kingston's cap to be able to draw a company like HITS to the city.
"HITS is a global company," Noble said. "They have operations all over the country and the world. To be able to know that HITS now has its headquarters here is really great."
In an interview prior to the ceremony, HITS President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Englehart said the company wanted to consolidate its offices from two locations along Main Street in Saugerties to one site.
"We wanted to bring everybody under one roof," Englehart said of the move, which took place about three weeks ago. "Even though the offices in Saugerties were just across the street from each other, it was still a communications thing. We were putting together better internal systems from an IT standpoint that we needed to address."
Englehart said the initial search began in Saugerties, but HITS was unable to find a suitable office there for its needs. "Then we quickly began focusing in on Kingston and found this place right away," he said. "It all fit together like a glove."
The second-floor office most recently housed the campaign headquarters for newly elected U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan, D-Gardiner, who represents
the 18th Congressional District.
State Sen. Michelle Hinchey, who represents the 46th New York state Senate District, wished HITS well in its new location and noted that she also had
her campaign office in the same building.
"Saugerties is my hometown, so anytime we see a business move from Saugerties, we're a little sad," she said. "But I think it makes a lot of sense for you to be here. I think it's right to be under one roof. The culture that you can foster. The growth that you have in knowing that your ties are still always there (in Saugerties). It's wonderful that you're here to stay local."
Mortimer Singer, managing partner of New York City-based Traub Capital Partners, which purchased a majority stake of HITS from former owner Tom Struzzieri last year, said Kingston is an ideal location for the new HITS headquarters.
"We pride ourselves in trying to create communities within our companies and communities across our companies," Singer said. "We try to build enterprise of the company, the team and the individual. It's really wonderful to do all those three elements in one place, in one building and in one beautiful town where we can all be together and not too far away from our lead showground."
