Manhasset's Young leads Maryland to upset
Manhasset's Ryan Young had two goals and four assists Saturday as unranked Maryland upset No. 4 Virginia, 12-7, in front of 10,545 in an Atlantic Coast Conference men's lacrosse game at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
Maryland improved to 7-2 overall, 1-2 in the conference.
Huntington's Rhamel Bratton had two goals for the Cavaliers (7-3, 0-1).
Notre Dame 12, Villanova 8: East Hampton's Zach Brenneman had two goals and an assist and Holy Trinity graduate Sean Rogers added a goal for No. 2 Notre Dame (7-0, 2-0 Big East). Eighth-ranked Villanova fell to 7-3, 0-2.
Penn State 8, Lehigh 7: Danny Henneghan scored the winner with 3:56 left in overtime to lift Penn State (5-4) in non-conference. South Side's Gavin Ahern also scored for the Nittany Lions. St. Anthony's grad Dante Fantoni scored three goals for Lehigh (6-5).
Albany 12, Harvard 11: Miles Thompson had four goals, including the winner with 27 seconds left and West Islip graduate Brian Caufield had a goal and four assists for Albany (4-5) in non-conference. Harvard is 6-3.
Delaware 9, Drexel 7: John Mills and Brendan Gilson scored consecutive goals to give No. 18 Delaware (7-3, 3-0 CAA) an 8-6 lead and its eighth straight win over conference opponents. Drexel is 5-5, 1-2.
C.W. Post 9, NYIT 5:Nick Poric scored four goals and Mike Giordano matched a season high with 14 saves for C.W. Post (10-1, 3-1 ECC). NYIT dropped to 4-3, 2-2.
Mercyhurst 16, Dowling 8:Vito Demola scored three goals and Michael Brennan two as Dowling (6-2, 3-2 ECC) fell to Mercyhurst (7-1, 5-1).Molloy 16, Dominican 10:Jimmy Davis and Kenny Lutz each had four goals and one assist for Molloy (3-6, 1-3 ECC). Dominican is 2-7, 1-3. Farmingdale State 21, Mount St. Mary 1:Ryan Oswald had six goals and one assist and Bobby Thomas four goals and five assists to lead Farmingdale State (4-4, 1-0 Skyline). Mount St. Mary fell to 2-8, 0-1. WOMEN'S LACROSSEDowling 23, Bridgeport 0:Cassandra Cronin, Kathryn Ford and Kelly Cefalu each scored three goals to lead Dowling (5-2, 1-0 ECC). Bridgeport is 0-5, 0-2.
