Suffolk upsets top-ranked, previously undefeated Essex
Brendan Hayes scored the winner with 1:53 remaining to lift Suffolk CC over top-ranked and previously undefeated Essex CC, 14-13, Saturday in NJCAA men's lacrosse. Steven Marciano (two assists) had tied it at 13 with 4:21 left for Suffolk.
Hayes had five goals and two assists, Ryan Maurer scored three goals and Mike Theiss made 20 saves to lead the Longhorns (11-2). Reed Phillips scored four goals for Essex CC (13-1).
Hofstra 14, Jacksonville 10: Jay Card scored four goals and Brad Loizeaux had three goals and two assists to lead No. 15 Hofstra (8-4). Ryan Serville had two goals and an assist for Jacksonville (6-7).
C.W. Post 16, Molloy 6: Eddie Plompen had six goals to lead Post (12-1, 7-1 ECC). Joe Meo added four goals. Albert Maione scored four goals for Molloy (3-9, 2-6).
NYIT 18, Mercy 8: Austin Carino had seven goals to lead NYIT (7-4, 6-3 ECC). Mike Palmer had four goals and three assists and Matt Sullivan four goals and two assists. Sullivan, a senior, set the school record for assists with 118. Mercy is 3-8, 2-5.
Notre Dame 13, St. John's 6: Grant Krebs scored three goals and Neal Hicks had two goals and an assist for Notre Dame (7-5). Tyler Novotny scored twice for St. John's (5-7).
Nassau CC 11, Army Prep 9: Jason Cranmer had four goals and Owen Campbell added four assists for Nassau CC (12-2).
Adelphi 13, Franklin Pierce 4: Jonathan Baron had seven goals and an assist and Danny Blau four assists for Adelphi (7-4, 5-3 Northeast-10).
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Adelphi 25, Southern New Hampshire 9: Marissa Mills had six goals and two assists and Claire Petersen five goals and three assists as Adelphi (14-0, 11-0 Northeast-10) won its 32nd straight game.
Binghamton 12, Stony Brook 10: Samantha Djaha scored three goals and Melissa Cook, Courtney Bertolone and Jackie Hughes had two goals each for visiting Stony Brook (3-12, 1-5 America East). Liz Zuern had three goals for Binghamton (2-11, 1-5).
Farmingdale State 19, Kean 13: Emily Williams had six goals and an assist to lead the Rams (7-6, 6-2 Skyline). Kathy Waite had four goals and an assist and Kim Lehmann three goals and two assists. Chelsea Davis scored six goals for Kean (7-8, 5-3).
Dowling 16, Lake Erie 3: Cassandra Cronin had four goals to lead Dowling (9-5, 3-1 ECC). Cronin's first goal gave her 49 to break the school record. Kelly Cefalu had scored 48 in 2008. Samantha Titus scored three goals and Sam Messineo had two goals and two assists.
