Michael Kay has been around the Yankees on a daily basis for a quarter century now, but his acting debut has him playing a “Belichick-ian’’ high school football coach, complete with a hoodie with the sleeves cut short.

Also Belichick-ian: Kay does not say much, just a handful of lines in Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups 2,’’ premiering Friday.

But that was more than enough for the YES play-by-play man, whom Sandler invited to be in the movie after Kay interviewed him for a “CenterStage’’ episode in early 2011 and the two hit it off.

“It was so neat,’’ Kay said. “He treated me like I was one of the stars of the movie. I showed up and they had an actual trailer for me, which was kind of mind-blowing.’’

During his one day on the set near Boston last summer, Kay was summoned to Sandler’s trailer, where the talk naturally turned to the Yankees. Sandler is a big fan.

“He made it seem like I was doing him a favor being in the movie,’’ Kay said. “It was the complete opposite.’’

So how did Kay do? Said Sandler: “He stepped it up. He knew the pressure was on him. He showed the Yankees’ tradition of excellence.’’
