Here is something I wrote for the newspaper about a Sports Business Daily poll that confirmed the seemingly obvious: Derek Jeter is the most marketable player in Major League Baseball - by far.

Jeter topped a similar SBD poll of sports business executives in 2005 and 2003. And he was fourth in 1999.

The only other player on all four lists is Alex Rodriguez, who went from sixth in '99 and second in both '03 and '05 to ninth this year.

Compared to basketball and football (and even golf) there is an amazing lack of baseball players with national reach, marketing-wise.

After Jeter in the poll came Albert Pujols, Joe Mauer and rookie Stephen Strasburg.
