Mike "Doc" Emrick announced Thursday he no longer will call Devils games on MSG Plus.

Citing the fact that he will turn 65 on Aug. 1 and a desire to work fewer games and travel less, he will limit himself to national games for NBC and Versus. MSG did not announce a replacement. Steve Cangialosi, Emrick's regular fill-in, is thought to be the leading candidate.

Emrick, one of the most respected play-by-play men in any sport, made the announcement in an open letter to Devils fans. He has called the team's games since 1993.

Dan Ronayne, executive vice president of MSG Network, issued a statement lauding Emrick and saying the network will "miss his insight, humor, humility and passion for the game."
