John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, the Yankees’ radio broadcast team for the past 11 seasons, have signed new multiyear contracts with WFAN, the station and its parent company, CBS Radio, announced Friday.
Sterling, 77, has called Yankees games since 1989. Waldman, 69, joined him in 2005 after covering the team for the YES Network and before that for WFAN.
The Yankees moved their radio home from WCBS to WFAN in 2014.
The duo is not without its critics — Sterling in particular. But many fans have come to view them, for all of their quirks, as part of the franchise’s fabric.
In a news release, WFAN program director Mark Chernoff said Sterling and Waldman “are as much a part of Yankee tradition as Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter and Yogi Berra.”
WFAN’s first spring training broadcast will be Saturday, when the Yankees play the Red Sox.
