The Garden announced this week that seats from its currently-being-gutted lower bowl can be had via Steiner Sports for $899.99 a pair, or $549.99 apiece. (Other Garden memorabilia also will be available.)
Hmm. How does that stack up – that’s a chair joke; get it? – with souvenir seats sold when other famous local sports facilities were demolished?
The original asking prices were $1,499 a pair for Yankee Stadium, $869 for Shea Stadium and $499 for Giants Stadium.
I discovered a pre-1976 Yankee Stadium seat rotting in a friend’s backyard in Northport in the summer of 1979. He gave it to me for free.
