Stony Brook football and basketball play-by-play man Mike Solano's appearance on "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire," which was taped in October, concluded Friday with the airing of a show in which he declined to take a stab at a $100,000 question and instead went home with $58,600.
Not bad!
Solano, 30, answered nine questions correctly on the Thursday episode, then qualified on Friday for a $100,000 question. But if he had answered it wrong, he would have been left with $25,000 rather than $58,600.
He passed.
The question: According to the most recent IRS statistics, the wealthiest one percent of U.S. taxpayers have an adjusted gross income of at least what?
A: $199,621
B: $217,836
C: $343,927
D: $526,228
The answer was C.
(A few years back I was a "Phone a Friend" for my cousin Audrey. To make a long story short, she wasn't sure she correctly heard what I had suggested she answer because my response was cut off in mid-sentence, and she wound up passing up a $25,000 question and took home $16,000. Was I right? It's complicated. But suffice to say, I will know for the rest of my life that people who life in Utah are known as Utahns.)
