Conor McGregor, the UFC interim featherweight champion, will coach Season 22 of "The Ultimate Fighter" opposite Urijah Faber, UFC president Dana White announced Sunday night during the TUF 21 finale.

The outspoken and often outlandish McGregor, one of the sport's biggest stars, won the interim belt one night prior by stopping Chad Mendes in the second round at UFC 189.

McGregor and Faber will not fight each other at the end of season, a change from past editions of the show.

TUF 22 will feature 16 lightweights -- eight from the U.S. coached by Faber (California) against eight from Europe coached by McGregor (Ireland). It premieres Sept. 9 on Fox Sports 1.
