MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano opened at No. 6 at the box office with the Steven Soderbergh action-thriller "Haywire." It grossed $8,425,370 but showed on the least amount of screens for any of the top six films.

Fightin' Words checked in with Carano before the movie premiered. Here's that story, and below are some extra quotes from our sit-down interview.

On filming in Dublin, Ireland

“Irish people are extremely funny and outgoing and just tell you exactly how it is.”

On special-ops training with Aaron Cohen

“The last thing you want is a special ops guy to be is super excited because then all that energy is coming your way. Other actors kept saying 'Does he know it’s a movie? Does he know it’s not real?'”

On MMA and fighting

“You never know what day you show up at the gym you’re going to get the living hell beat out of you.”

”Your ultimate goal is always to do as well as you can against an opponent who is equally trying to take your head off. There’s a lot of respect in that.”

“I’d rather know my opponent and know my situation. I think there’s something very honorable and beautiful in fighting. At the same time, I know you cant do it forever. This acting experience, I found another way to get my adrenaline up and express myself.”

On her next move

"I want to do it all. I think a dark romance would be fun. I know my niche right now is fighting. To be honest, I don’t mind representing MMA and bringing a little more fun action that’s realistic to the big screen. After I get a couple of those under my belt and get more comfortable, I'd love to go into something more intense.”
