Josh Thomson, an honest winner

Josh Thomson spent what seemed like 11 minutes in the guillotine choke of JZ Cavalcante during the first round at Strikeforce San Jose on Saturday night.

Somehow, he managed to squirm out of it and put forth his own submission attempt late in the first round.  No such luck as the bell rang.

The rest of their lightweight bout went similarly. Plenty of back and forth, with Thomson and Cavalcante each showing some offensive prowess. 

Thomson won a unanimous decision, which was questionable and debatable. It was that close of a bout. Two judges scored it 29-28, and a third judge scored it 30-27. How did that happen? Even Thomson, the former Strikeforce lightweight champion, didn't know.

"There's no way I won that fight, 30-27," Thomson said in his post-fight interview.

He then joked that there should be a clinic for judges to attend.  We agree.
