The Nevada State Athletic Commission had quite the news day on this particular Monday.

First, they approved Chael Sonnen's request for a therapeutic-use exemption (TUE) for testosterone, thereby allowing for the UFC 148 main event against champion Anderson Silva to happen.

After Sonnen's first shot at Silva in August 2010, he tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone, was suspended, later said it was for hypogonadism and had his suspension reduced.

Next up for NSAC was Nick Diaz and his positive test for marijuana metabolites after his February 2012 but against Carlos Condit.

Diaz was suspended for one year and fined 30 percent of his fight purse of $200,000. The suspension is retroactive to Feb. 4, the night Diaz lost a decision to Condit for the interim welterweight title at UFC 143.

This was Diaz's second marijuana-related offense and suspension. The NSAC suspended Diaz in 2007 for six months after he tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, following a win over Takanori Gomi.

Diaz has a license for medical marijuana in California, the state where he resides.
