The Pat Barry fight
Beating Christian Morecraft won't move a fighter up the heavyweight ladder as fast as losing to him would drop that fighter down said ladder.
So it's a good thing for Pat Barry's career that he knocked out Morecraft in the first round Friday night in Nashville at UFC on FX 1. Barry (7-4) dropped Morecraft (7-3) with a big left hook, then followed up with a series of rights including one that landed flush.
Two ways to look at this for Barry: 1) He made several mistakes earlier in the bout and was submitted by a rear naked choke and an armbar; 2) His submission defense was exceptional.
Your choice.
"I know the whole world says my jiu-jitsu coach is [former heavyweight boxer] James Toney," Barry said jokingly in the cage after the victory. "He's much better than you think."
