UFC 121: When will Tito Ortiz win another fight?
Tito Ortiz looked to be in the best shape we've seen him in quite a while at the start of UFC 121.
The former light heavyweight champion came out throwing leg kicks and punch combinations and looking like the Tito Ortiz of his heyday. But as the fight wore on, Ortiz got out-Tito Ortiz'd by his former student Matt Hamill.
Hamill won a unanimous decision over Ortiz. Two judges scored it 29-28, and the third judge gave all three rounds to Ortiz.
"It was pretty weird, my former teacher," said Hamill (11-2, 9-2 UFC).
Ortiz (16-8-1, 14-8-1 UFC) hasn't won a fight in the UFC in more than four years, last beating Ken Shamrock on Oct. 10, 2006. He's 0-2 after returning to the UFC in 2009 after a spat with UFC president Dana White. Ortiz lost a split decision to Forrest Griffin at UFC 106 in November, 2009.
Hamill took down Ortiz midway through the second round and controlled his former coach and mentor the rest of the way. HIs ground and pound likely earned him the round on the judges' cards.
Hamill took down Ortiz with about 90 seconds left in what until that point was an inactive third round. It solidified the fifth straight win for Hamill, including a win by DQ over Jon "Bones" Jones.
