Every time Jon Fitch fights, we reel off his list of bona fides that creates a deserving portfolio for another shot at Georges St-Pierre's UFC welterweight title.
And with one left punch by Johny Hendricks, that title talk surrounding Fitch came to a crashing halt.
Hendricks landed a perfect left punch to Fitch's chin that knocked him out 12 seconds into the first round at UFC 141 in Las Vegas on Friday night.
"I have a left hand," said Hendricks (12-1). "I knew if I hit him with it, I could knock him out."
Here's the rundown on Fitch prior to that 12-second knockout loss that just got erased:
- Six straight fights without a loss (5-0-1)
- Nine straight decisions (7-1-1)
- A 14-1-1 record in the UFC since 2005
That's gone now as Fitch (26-6-3), in his first fight since February because of shoulder surgery, lost any chance of a title shot at some point in 2012. Given the hurdles Fitch had to go through to even get close to a rematch against GSP, they just got a little higher.
