UFC on Versus 2: Another win for Jon 'Bones' Jones
Jon "Bones" Jones, the next big thing at light heavyweight, continued his meteoric rise through the 205-pound division in mixed martial arts.
In a rather uneventful fashion, something we're not used to seeing from Jones, the upstate New York native won by TKO over Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC on Versus 2 in San Diego, Calif.
Jones (11-1) took down Matyushenko (24-5), passed his guard and worked for a crucifix. He got it but Matyushenko escaped. Bad idea for the Russian. Jones unloaded elbows at close range in a fast and furious manner. Matyushenko ate every single one of them, and referee Herb Dean stopped the fight at 1:52.
Can we now see Jones step up his level of competition?
Matyushenko may be a tough guy, but he's 39 years old. Let's be real here. Jones needs to fight a big name now. Maybe Forrest Griffin? How about Tito Ortiz? Is that too big a jump? Nope.
If Jones is the real deal, and let's hope he is because he's great for the sport (and a very nice guy), let's get him in the Octagon against a top-notch fighter. He's ready for a pay-per-view main card.
