Because there isn’t enough running commentary on the Internet, here’s mine from a viewing of the first episode of "UFC Primetime" with Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos in the build-up to UFC 166 on Oct. 19.
— Still can’t understand how Dos Santos didn’t collapse at some point during the second fight.
— You can never have enough shots of fighters driving in their cars and SUVs. (Note: you very much can have enough of that.)
— Mayweather-Canelo weigh-in footage was somewhat surprising. But there’s a connection beyond the obvious boxing vs. MMA nonsense. Canelo Alvarez is a popular Mexican boxer, and Velasquez was the first Mexican heavyweight champion in combat sports history.
— Can’t wait to watch the Phantom Cam highlights after these two monsters throw their meathooks at each other’s large bodies.
— Good lord, Dos Santos’ wingspan covers his entire couch. Could be a smaller couch, though, but I won’t tell him that.
— “I’m the better fighter.”
— “No, I’m the better fighter.”
— “I’m going to knock him out.”
— “No, I’m going to knock him out.”
— Never underestimate a good musical score to make documentary-type coverage look better than it really is.
— I guess Dos Santos waived his HIPPA rights to allow that footage of bloodwork in the lab. Or is that the GOP’s worst nightmare come true in affordable health care?
— Dos Santos shown doing more sport-science style training. Can’t help but think “Brazilian Ivan Drago.”
— Here comes the Velasquez segment. How long until we get a Jon Jones reference from Daniel Cormier?
— Is this a Daniel Cormier Primetime episode?
— Velasquez vs. Cormier sparring looks mad intense.
— Nice quote from Cormier after visiting Joey Supnet, a teen boy in the hospital struggling to walk again after an accident: “These people fight on a different level than we fight, and to be a part of it is always great.
— Says Dos Santos: “You’re a pacifighter.” Ha!
— Dos Santos is a large, large man.
— Dos Santos on Velasquez’s power: “He hits like a girl.” That’s not particularly nice, on several levels.
