Last month, WEC matchmaker Sean Shelby called the Manny Gamburyan-Mike Brown fight at WEC 48 "a great eliminator" bout in featherweight division.
Well, Brown just got eliminated.
Up against the cage, Gamburyan ate a a right hand from Brown, then delivered a right hook that dropped Brown. He then moved in and landed a series of punches to the grounded Brown before the referee stepped in to stop the bout 2:22 into the first round.
Brown left himself open after landing that punch, keeping his left hand down as his momentum from throwing the right hand carried him into a crouched position.
What this does to the featherweight division is put Gamburyan (13-5) in line for a title fight against the Jose Aldo-Urijah Faber winner. This is the second loss in three fights for Brown (23-6), who prior to that had won four straight bouts to become the featherweight champion.
