In the days leading up to WEC 53, the last for the promotion before it merges with the UFC, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone expressed some concern about not making the cut in the to-be-combined lightweight division.

Maybe it was genuine, or maybe it was just some pre-fight motivation.

Either way, Cerrone (13-3) impressed with a second-round submission of Horodecki. Cerrone got the fight to the ground and worked for a triangle choke. He got the lock and sat back for a minute or two to let the submission hold do its job. Horodecki tapped with 2:43 into the second round.

After the fight, Cerrone said he'd like to fight Cole Miller in his UFC debut.
