LONDON -- Defending champion Emmanuel Mutai didn't let being infected by typhoid totally disrupt his preparations for the London Marathon. Not when there's an Olympics approaching.
A year after winning in London with the fastest-ever time, Mutai's target on Sunday is a top-three finish to raise his chances of qualifying for the Kenyan Olympic team.
He's been taking medication to fight the typhoid over the last three weeks in Kenya. He's had a reduced training schedule, but says he'll "work extra" to try to defend his title.
He admits he's "not quite strong" because three weeks ago, he had a fever.
