Rain threatens to postpone men's downhill

WHISTLER, Canada - The weather is living up to its billing in Whistler, with snow, fog and now rain pelting the Olympic downhill courses.

The difficult conditions already have ruined two downhill training sessions. More precipitation is in the forecast through the weekend, raising fears that one of the Olympics' signature events - the men's downhill - could be postponed.

With its location near the Pacific Ocean, Whistler has a long history of bad weather. For three straight years in the mid-1990s, the World Cup ski circuit came to Whistler and failed to get off a single race. - AP
