Rio Olympics: Usain Bolt advances to 200 finals, Justin Gatlin out
Usain Bolt is one step away from clinching his final individual sprint gold at the Olympics.
The Jamaican runner won the second heat of the 200-meter semifinals in 19.78 on Wednesday to advance to Thursday night’s event finals.
The controversial Justin Gatlin of the U.S. finished third in the final heat and did not advance to the finals.
Bolt, who won gold in the 100 meters on Sunday, also will run in the second heat of the 4x100 meter relay on Thursday morning.
Team USA’s LaShawn Merritt, one of Bolt’s biggest competitors, won the first heat in 19.94 to also earn an automatic bid to the finals.
