US hurdler Russell and Brazil's Dos Santos break world records at Diamond League meet

ZURICH — A couple of world records were broken less than 40 minutes apart at the Diamond League on Thursday, with Alison dos Santos of Brazil smashing the men’s 400-meter hurdles record and Masai Russell of the U.S. breaking the women's 100-meter hurdles mark.
Russell, the Olympic champion, set a time of 12.09 seconds, taking 0.03 off the previous world record held by Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan.
Amusan was second in a season-best 12.23, and European champion Nadine Visser finished third in 12.34.
Dos Santos crossed the line in 45.80 seconds at the Weltklasse to take 0.14 seconds off the world record set by Karsten Warholm of Norway at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Warholm finished second Thursday in 46.69.
The 26-year-old Dos Santos was the 2022 world champion and is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist.
