When the world tunes into the 2026 World Cup this summer, Long Island will once again be represented in the form of a red, white and blue jersey worn by Lake Grove’s Joe Scally.
According to multiple reports, Scally made the 26-man roster for the United States men’s national team. It was first reported by The Guardian Saturday. The 23-year-old right back was the youngest player on the USMNT’s 2022 World Cup roster in Qatar at 19 years old.
Scally plays in Germany’s Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach and started 31 of 35 games across all competitions this season, tallying two goals and three assists. The right back appeared in both of the USMNT’s friendlies this year, coming off the bench and playing a total of 45 minutes in losses to Portugal and Belgium.
A 2020 graduate of Sachem North High School, Scally will be joined by defenders Max Arfsten, Sergino Dest, Alex Freeman, Mark McKenzie, Tim Ream, Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson, Miles Robinson and Auston Trusty.
Goalkeepers Chris Brady, Matt Freese and Matt Turner made the roster, while Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Sebastian Berhalter, Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, Cristian Roldan, Malik Tillman, Tim Weah and Alejandro Zendejas make up the midfield and wingers.
Strikers Folarin Balogun, Ricardo Pepi and Haji Wright round out the roster, which will be made official on June 1 when managers submit it to FIFA.
The USMNT has friendlies scheduled against Senegal on May 31 in Charlotte and Germany on June 6 in Chicago. It will play its first World Cup match in Group D against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles.
