Looking to reminisce? U.S.-Portugal on ESPN Classic
Much like this year, the United States men's soccer team entered the 2002 World Cup looking to improve on its failure from four years earlier.
Much like this year, the U.S. was placed in a manageable group, but with a tournament favorite who they'd have to face first.
Yes, I'm talking about June 5, 2002 -- U.S.-Portugal, when the Americans stormed out to a 3-0 lead and held on to defeat Figo and the Portuguese, 3-2, to set the tone for the rest of the tournament and their quarterfinal run.
It's being broadcast on ESPN Classic today at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy.
