Oguchi Onyewu adds another year ... free of charge?

You don't see this every day in the world of professional sports.

American defender Oguchi Onyewu, who has been recovering from a torn patellar tendon he sustained in October, has added another year to his contract with AC Milan. And, get this ... he's asked for nothing in return. 

Onyewu missed nearly the entire 2009-10 season after going down against Costa Rica during a World Cup qualifier. The ensuing knee surgery kept him sidelined all year. He's expected to take the field for the first time in the United States' two pre-World Cup friendlies next week. As a result, Onyewu decided to give something back. 

On its website, AC Milan heralded the "exemplary gesture," saying it "merits sincere congratulations."
