LET - The Open’s junior tournament, which begins today, may or may not allow a look at future champions in the main draw. Only three Open junior champions — Stefan Edberg in 1983, Lindsay Davenport in 1992 and Andy Roddick in 2000 — later won a title in the main draw. But among past junior runners-up were future champs Boris Becker in 1984, Martina Hingis in 1994, Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2001 and Roger Federer in 1998.
ACE - The U.S. Open as a tennis theme park. Yesterday the “living status” tennis players were at the South Plaza, and fans could snap photos next to life-size pictures of such stars as Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

Still alive after one round of mixed doubles play is Scott Lipsky, the former state champ at Bellmore JFK High. Lipsky, now 31 and living in Southern California, is teaming with 31-year-old California native Abigail Spears. In 2011, Lipsky, with partner Casey Dellacqua, won the French Open mixed doubles title. Lipsky and his doubles partner, Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico, won their second-round men’s doubles match yesterday.
