Stanislas Wawrinka needed two medical timeouts, one in which he left the court, but he didn't seem fazed by the right thigh injury. No, it was Murray, the No. 4 seed and the runner-up here two years ago, who seemed out of sorts and out of sync over the final two sets.

Wawrinka, the No. 25 seed, moved into the fourth round with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Murray. Wawrinka simply walloped the ball all over the Louis Armstrong Stadium court, overpowering Murray for much of the match.

Wawrinka rallied after being down a break in the second, then got an early break in the third before needing the trainer to wrap his right thigh. That didn't slow him down one bit as he took the third set, then traded breaks of serve in the fourth before taking an advantage and closing it out on Murray's serve.

Murray was one of the favorites coming into the Open, having reached the final in the Australian Open and the semis at Wimbledon, but his maturity seemed to abandon him a bit in the fourth set, when he sprayed a few loose errors and had some defeated body language.

Wawrinka now faces Sam Querrey in the round of 16, a real opportunity for the young American to move on.
