Kim Clijsters, last year's U.S. Open champion, is in this year's semifinals.

Clijsters won her quarterfinals match against Samantha Stosur, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3. The third set opened with six straight breaks. Finally Clijsters won the seventh game, which seemed to give her the mental edge she needed to win the match.

Clijsters will play Venus Williams in the semifinals. Clijsters beat Williams at Ashe Stadium on her way to the title last year, which was Williams’s latest disappointment in a tournament that she won in 2000 and 2001.

"My serve wasn't going as well as I wanted it to go, but i ended up winning," Clijsters said after her win Tuesday night. "Venus is a great competitor. She's American so it will be fun to play."
