James Blake advances to third round
Fan favorite James advanced to the third round with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 win over Peter Polansky. Blake celebrated by mouthing the words "My House" at the end of the fourth set.
"If this match was played anywhere else, I might not have won," Blake said referring to the support he got from fans during the match.
Blake may have to pull off the upset of a lifetime to get to the fourth round as he will likely have to face Novak Djokovic next. Dkokovic, the No. 3 player in the world, plays Phillipp Petzschner later tonight for the right to play Blake.
Blake, who is ranked 108th in the world and needed a wild card to get into the tournament, was born in Yonkers and learned how to play in Harlem. At age 30, there is a lot of talk that this may be his last open. He has long been beloved for his story and the fact he overcame a curvature of his spine to become a tennis player. He also overcame a freak accident in 2005, when he broke his neck after sliding into a net post in Rome.
