Kerber-Stosur semi in Grandstand
The Samantha Stosur-Angelique Kerber semifinal will be played on the Grandstand court Saturday at 6 p.m. with spectators accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis in the 6,106-seat arena. The Serena Williams-Caroline Wozniacki match will be in Ashe Stadium at 8 p.m.
According to Dan Zausner, managing director of the National Tennis Center, officials couldn't take a chance that the day session men's semifinals, starting at noon in Ashe, would run into the night session -- the women's semifinals -- and then create a scenario where the last women's match would start after 10 p.m., with the their final on Sunday at 4 p.m.
If spectators want to see both women's matches, they will have to be at the Tennis Center early to line up for the Grandstand, which has 25 percent of the capacity of Ashe. The much larger Armstrong Stadium remains unavailable because of water-leaching issues on the court.
