Kim Clijsters breezes into the quarterfinals
It's a 6-2, 6-1 rout for Clijsters, who was on serve at 3-2 in the first set before steamrolling Ana Ivanovic in 59 minutes.
Ivanovic, the former French Open champion and world No. 1 who's been trying to rebound into the top 10 after shaky confidence dropped her from the elite.
Ivanovic didn't seem bothered by the ankle injury she suffered two weeks before the Open in her first three matches; then again, she wasn't facing anyone of Clijsters' caliber.
The first two games of the match took nearly 10 minutes as each player fought hard to hold serve. Ivanovic would not hold serve again, with Clijsters breaking Ivanovic six times on the way to the win.
Clijsters, who now has a remarkable 18-match U.S. Open winning streak -- that dates back to 2003, with her titles in 2005 and 2009 sandwiched around three Opens missed due to injury and retirement -- will face the winner of the Samantha Stosur-Elena Dementieva match, which comes tonight.
