The U.S. Open will finish on a Monday for a fourth straight year.

Consecutive rainouts on Tuesday and Wednesday caused a pileup of matches for the men on the bottom half of the draw who completed their round of 16 matches yesterday, while the top half finished their quarterfinals.

One of the bottom-half players -- Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, John Isner or Andy Murray -- would have had to play four straight days if he were to reach the scheduled final on Sunday. So officials decided to give the men Sunday off.

That's if rain doesn't further impact the schedule.

A statement was released from tournament director Jim Curley: "We revised the schedule for the remainder of the U.S. Open in an effort to be fair to the players and our ticket-holders. This is the result of a collaborative effort with the players, CBS Sports and tournament officials to address the issues that arose from the inclement weather earlier this week."

The top half of the men's draw was scheduled to complete its quarterfinals last night, so the two remaining quarterfinals -- Isner vs. Murray and Roddick vs. Nadal -- will be played as the day session Friday with tickets for the canceled Session 20 from Wednesday night being honored.

On Saturday, both men's semifinals will be played during the day, as originally scheduled. But instead of the women's final Saturday night, both of their semifinals will be played and the Session 23 tickets will be honored.

The women's final will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The gates open at 11 a.m. and the final will be preceded by a doubles match to be determined. The men's final will be at 4 p.m. on Monday.
