No. 4 Jankovic gets major scare in first round

Phew! One day after men's No. 5 seed Robin Soderling got a scare, the No. 4 in the women's draw was fortunate to advance into the second round.
Jelena Jankovic had her back against the wall in the third set, with Romanian opponent Simona Halep serving for the match at 6-4, 5-7, 4-5. But Jankovic won a deuce game to stay alive, and swept the next two games to advance.
2008 finalist Jankovic committed 48 unenforced errors and hit just 22 winners against Halep, who turns 19 next month, and was playing in her first U.S. Open.
The match took 2 hours, 20 minutes.
