This native of Ukraine popped up on the Open radar in 2004 when he lost in the final of the juniors to Andy Murray. It's been a steady climb for him since in the pro ranks, and Sunday, he won his second title of the year at New Haven in the Pilot Pen.

Stakhovsky can play serve-and-volley tennis, a throwback, and he hopes to be on top of his Australian opponent Wednesday with an aggressive style. He's working on his movement. "I can be faster," he said with a smile.

He is also fluent in five languages, Ukranian, Slovak, Czech, Russian and English.
