Saturday's match: Alexandra Dulgheru

Vera Zvonareva made it to her first major singles final this year, losing to Serena Williams at Wimbledon. She got hammered in the title match, but to have made it so far through such a difficult tournament was a major feat in itself.

Zvonareva was coming back from ankle surgery in November 2009, putting in enough hard work that she made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open in January. Though she doesn't have a title yet this year, she made it to the final in Montreal three weeks ago, losing to Caroline Wozniacki.

Off the court, Zvonareva has embraced a number of social and charitable endeavors. She is a fundraiser for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, takes part in matches that raise money for a number of entities, and is pursuing a degree in international relations and economics in Russia, having already earned a degree in physical education.
