Roger Federer cruises through first two sets
Sorry for falling behind a bit on the Federer match. If there were an upset brewing, I would have waited to post some of the interview material from earlier matches, but the fact is that Federer is at the top of his game on a very difficult night amid the swirling winds of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Federer won the first two sets over Sweden's Robin Soderling, 6-4, 6-4, and his shotmaking has been superb. My favorite was a serve into the deep right corner that Soderling blocked back followed by a whipping forehand to the deep left corner. Soderling was utterly helpless.
The No. 2 seeded Federer has been hitting the lines all night and sending his groundstrokes to the deepest part of the court. Oh, and he has kind of an awesome serve. Soderling held serve to open the third set, but Federer is looking very strong as he vies to reach the semifinals against Novak Djokovic.
