There's a promising future in American men's tennis...
Just caught most of the match between Denis Kudla and Evan King, both Americans. Kudla won, but it was a crazy exciting match, and King, despite losing, is one of the most fun to watch tennis players I've ever seen.
Emotional, athletic and with a serve that hit 116 mph, King could often be seen yelling and fist pumping throughout the match. King is taking a few days off from classes from the University of Michigan to compete here Flushing Meadows, where he will be starting his sophomore year. Kudla was born in the Ukraine, turned pro earlier this year, and cites grass as his favorite surface to play on.
With all the hoopla surrounding the lack of American men left in the Open tournament, it seems there's a pretty promising future for the US of A between these two. Close match that ended up going to the more polished Kudla, but some seriously exciting tennis to watch on a day that's filled with Rafael Nadal madness.
Photos to come, as the photos taken by my iPhone are too large to upload on here, and they're taking forever to arrive in my e-mail smaller.
