Venus Williams advances with win over Rebecca Marino
Other than some early trouble, Venus Williams won her 1st round match against Rebecca Marino in straight sets 7-6, 6-3.
The 3rd seeded Williams sister not named Serena is clearly one of the favorites to win the U.S. Open title this year. Williams hasn't won at Flushing Meadows since 2001.
Serena Williams is not competing in this year's U.S. Open because of a mysterious foot injury that she allegedly sustained in Munich when she cut herself on a piece of glass.
