Venus Williams, who hasn't played a tournament since Wimbledon, found her game when she really needed it.

The No. 3-seeded Williams overcame nine double-faults and beat reigning French Open champion Francesca Schiavone 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

The 30-year-old Williams is now one victory away from reaching her first U.S. Open Final since 2002. She last made it to the semifinals in 2007. She is the only American left in either the men's or women's since events.
