Venus Williams on to the quarterfinals
It wasn't easy, but Venus is through to the quarters with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Shahar Peer. Venus will face Francesca Schiavone in the quarters, a pair of 30-year-olds in what's supposed to be a young woman's game.
With her injured sister Serena watching, Venus toughed out the first set after an eight-deuce game which Peer held to get to 6-all.
Venus got an early break in the second, but her serve wasn't as strong a weapon as it normally is -- Peer broke Venus three times in the match.
