Venus Williams toughs out first set
Venus and Shahar Peer battled through an epic 12th game, an eight-deuce war in which Peer saved five set points to get their fourth-round match to a tiebreak.
But Venus turned it on and wrapped up the tiebreak, 7-3, and has the first set in hand in her quest for a quarterfinal berth.
Around the grounds... American Sam Querrey, the No. 20 seed, took the first set from No. 14 Nicolas Almagro, 6-3, and they are on serve at 3-4 in the second.
And former top-5 player David Nalbandian, the No. 31 seed, is down 2 sets to 1 and a break in the fourth to No. 8 Fernando Verdasco.
