Wozniacki talks about her win
Caroline Wozniacki dominated her opponent today with a double bagel.
The world's No. 1 women's player out-served, out-returned and out-hustled unseeded Kai-Chen Chang of Taiwan.
Wozniacki was in total control. She returned all but one of Chang's serves and had just nine second serves.
Wozniacki, runner-up last year to Kim Clijsters, barely broke a sweat as she hurried off the Arthur Ashe centre court after just 47 minutes against Chang, ranked 84th.
The 20-year-old Dane, who has a 16-1 record since Wimbledon with titles in Copenhagen, Montreal and New Haven, has dropped only two games at Flushing Meadows, beating American wildcard Chelsey Gullickson 6-1 6-1 in the first round.
Against Chang, Wozniacki registered only seven winners as she chose to work on grooving her groundstrokes while waiting for her 19-year-old opponent to misfire.
Chang, who lost in straight sets to Wozniacki in the second round at Wimbledon, won only 24 points in the match and committed 26 unforced errors including seven double faults.
Q: Yesterday you took a medical timeout in your doubles match. Were you feeling any effects from that today?
A: No, I felt great out there today. Everything was fine. I just got something for a headache yesterday, and that was it. I was feeling good today. No problems.
Q: How have things gone for you as the No. 1 seeded player?
A: It’s a good feeling. It’s nice to be the No. 1 seed, and, you know, it’s nice to play at the big stadium. It’s a great atmosphere. I’m just happy to be through to the third round. Yeah, I feel like I’ve been playing some good tennis.
Q: A lot of people are anticipating your potential match with Maria Sharapova in the fourth round. Do you look ahead in the draw?
A: I never look ahead in the draw. You never know what’s going to happen. It’s tennois, and you need to fight for every match.
Q: Will anything less than winning this tournament be a disappointment to you?
A: I’m just going out there. I want to win definitely, but I don’t think ahead. I don’t think about disappointments or what would make me happy. I’m just taking one match at a time. we have to see after the tournament how I do.
Q: The New York crowd tends to be loud. How does the atmosphere at the Open compare to other majors?
A: The atmosphere here is great, I really love playing here. It’s a great feeling. Also coming back from last year, being in the finals, coming back here and playing on the big courts, it’s a great feeling.
